Tehama County (pronounced teh-HAY-muh) is located in the northern part of California. It is bisected by the Sacramento River. As of 2000 its population was 56,039. The county seat is the city of Red Bluff.

Tehama County was formed from parts of Butte, Colusa, and Shasta Counties in 1856. The county is named for the City of Tehama. The origin of the name is not known.
